Peter Bell Books
After twenty years in West Port, nestling in the shadow of Edinburgh castle, the ‘frightfully serious’ and very fine bookshop of Peter Bell is a local landmark. The shop has a good quality general stock of secondhand and antiquarian books with an emphasis on history, philosophy and Scottish. At the back of the shop is an impressive number of art catalogues, including Scottish art. All books are clearly shelved and stacked, accessible to the lingering or logical gaze, whilst the whole shop has an atmosphere of spacious respectability, at least in contrast to bookish establishments up the hill.
