Booking and Collecting Tickets

Our ticketing system turned out to be a 100% improvement on that of the Fringe. Thanks to everyone who negotiated out system. It may have seemed a little complex (ha!) but it did have the desired result i.e. nearly everyone who booked or collected a ticket turned up at the relevant event, we managed to fit everyone in, and our lovely volunteers avoided nervous breakdowns.

Here’s a taste of our ticketing system if you are contemplating coming next year:

All events are free.

  • Advance ticket processing will cease at 10am, 13th August. Tickets will then be available from 5pm the day before an event from Edinburgh Books or on the day, if any are left. Edinburgh Books opens from 9.30am until about 8.30pm. Collection is in person only. No information on availability etc can be given out by phone or email. Pot luck, I’m afraid.

  • The maximum number of tickets that one person can collect is 4 for te POOKa and eca events and 2 for everything else.

  • Booked tickets are available for collection during the festival from Edinburgh Books. Please collect tickets at least 20 minutes before an event starts. Latecomers may not be admitted because some venues are small and your entry would be horribly conspicuous.

  • No tickets are needed for the Victorian Fair and Four Hour Festival.

  • All the West Port Book Festival venues are great spaces and places, although only a few are specifically designed to host events. This means that we will have to be creative with space; so if you are flexible you may be asked to sit on a cushion or a very small chair. If you are wearing sensible shoes, you may be asked to stand. Solid seating will be given to those who need it most.

  • If you’d like to make specific arrangements for attending please email info@westportbookfestival.org. We’ll do everything we can to comfortably accommodate you.
