Feedback from Authors and Punters

This year’s inaugural West Port Book Festival is over and we’ve had some great feedback:

I’d come back in a heartbeat - Ali Smith

I’m sure I enjoyed as much as some of the people who enjoyed it at least. Hope it all went as well as it seemed to. By the way, I’d have paid good money for that tarte aux pommes - AL Kennedy

I enjoyed myself. Well done to all - Ian Rankin

Just to say thanks for an enjoyable experience. And congratulations to all involved for what sounds like an altogether good thing - Dilys Rose

We’ve done a few festivals by now and you’re doing everything right, especially considering your budget is a big fat zero. You’ve obviously put in the work to promote it, the site and programme look perfect (not a word I use lightly) and everyone we talk to seems to be very positive about the whole experience. - Writers’ Bloc

a delightfully quirky but smoothly oiled machine - you’ve done a fabulous job with the festival - Writers’ Bloc

Well worth being here for. Can’t believe it was only your first one. Here’s to many more - Dean Parkin

I hope the Westport Book Festival goes from strength to strength - I’ll always be happy to take part again another year! – Ruth Thomas

The festival was ace! Back to how festivals should be. You’re stars for organising it all - a punter

What a success! I really enjoyed the events - they all had an added quirkiness which is a great boon. At the Gerry Loose/Dilys Rose the big window and all that was happening in the Grassmarket and the people walking by etc was like a big film installation running in the background. Your team were all great as well, everyone was nice and friendly and welcoming, great atmosphere about. Well done! – another punter

You’ve done a great thing. - another punter

You should all be doing a victory dance. I haven’t enjoyed literary events so much in a long time - punter

Oh look, there’s a magic book called ‘Witchin” - that’s genius! - (overheard, a punter, in occult in Armchair)

This better be on again next year - (oveheard: a punter)

We also had (less) feedback from people who found us (and te POOKa) too rumbustious. A word of warning for next year – we are not very good at revered silence and quiet complacency.
